This recipe makes the best, most perfect country cornbread ever. I have used this recipe for over 40 years and never been disappointed. Delicious when topped with butter and honey and eaten warm from the oven.
- 4 tablespoons butter melted
- 1 cup cornmeal not cornmeal mix
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Place butter in a 9-inch square baking dish. Place baking dish in oven until butter is melted.
Stir together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add eggs and milk and stir until combined.
Pour melted butter in cornbread batter and mix well.
Pour the cornbread batter into the prepared baking dish and bake in the oven for 25 minutes, until your cornbread turns a golden brown. Remove it from oven and serve warm with butter and honey.
